Snow storm preparation message

Please make your preparations for what is predicted to be a lengthy and powerful snow storm. The following are key announcements known at this point:

Thursday, February 9th:
• Parking ban in effect from 4 AM Thursday through Friday morning
• Trash & recycling delayed one day for balance of week
• Transfer station closed

Once the storm starts we urge people to shelter in place for the duration (24 hours). Traffic on snow-clogged roads delays clean-up efforts.

If you lose power call Eversource at 1-800-286-2000 to report an outage. Do not assume your neighbors have called for your area.

To report a downed tree that is blocking the roadway, contact the Coventry Police Department at 860-742-7331. Do not approach downed power lines. In the event of a downed power line or life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1.

• It is illegal for snowmobiles and ATVs to ride down roadways.
• It is illegal to push or plow snow from your property into the roadway.
• Use caution walking on snow-covered ice.
• Do not let children play in snow banks near the road where they could be injured by a snow plow.
• Make sure heating system vents are cleared.
• Do not run generators in an unsafe fashion and make sure fumes do not enter your house.
• Have contingency plans in place for medical equipment that requires electricity in the event of a power outage.
