Accident Reports
You may obtain copies of accident reports by coming to the Coventry Police Department Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Reports are generally available within two or three business days of the accident and copies are $0.50 per page. Reports may also be obtained online. You must have the date of the accident and the case number of the report.

Requests for police reports (other than accidents) should be made in writing. Reports will be released consistent with Freedom of Information guidelines.

Background Checks
Local background checks are available for town residents and those who work at businesses in town. You must come to the police department between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a valid photo identification. We perform only local records checks. Records checks through the State of Connecticut and other state reports are available through the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

The Coventry Police Department processes and issues a variety of permits. These include:

Town ordinances may relate to vendors and vending permit applications. Some permits require background and fingerprint checks. The fee for fingerprinting is $10.00 for town residents and $0.00 for non-residents. Fingerprinting is done at the following times:
  • Wednesday, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
  • Saturday, 9 a.m. - Noon

The fingerprinting fee is $10.00 for town residents and $20.00 for non-residents.

The police department also processes bazaar and raffle permits for the Charitable Games Unit of the State Division of Special Revenue. Information about conducting bazaars and raffles can be found on the state's website.

Special Event Permits
Certain special events and large gatherings of 300 or more people require a permit. You can download and bring the completed application to the police department for review.
