Victims and witnesses of crimes have specific rights and expectations which shall include the right to be treated with dignity, fairness and compassion by members of our department involved in a criminal investigation. The Coventry Police Department is committed to the development, implementation, and continuation of appropriate victim/witness assistance programs and activities. Officers will often refer crime victims to programs that can help them recover physically, emotionally and financially.
The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV) is the state's leading voice for victims of domestic violence and those agencies that serve them. Useful information regarding domestic violence laws and policies and the rights of victims can be found on the CCADV website.
Identity theft, credit card fraud and similar crimes are often committed by persons obtaining personal identifying information from victims over the telephone or internet. Personal information can also be stolen from the mail or from a retail establishment.
