Wreaths Across America Celebration

Saturday, December 18, 2021

The Coventry Cemetery Commission will be participating in Wreaths Across America for the fourth year. Wreaths across America endeavors to lay a wreath on every veteran’s grave on this day, here in Coventry, across the United States and in places around the world where veterans are interred.

The ceremony will take place at 12:00 PM at Coventry Cemetery but will be for veterans in Coventry Cemetery,  Nathan  Hale  Cemetery,  Grant  Hill  Cemetery,  St  Mary’s  Cemetery,  Old  South  Burying  Ground, and Carpenter Cemetery.

Donations are $15.00 per wreath and can be for a veteran or a specific veteran’s grave. Donations can be made by check or online.  Checks should be made to “Wreaths Across America” and sent to Coventry Cemetery Commission at 1712 Main St., Coventry, CT 06238.  Online payments may be made at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/CTCCCC where payment can be made by credit card, PayPal or GooglePay.  This link is also available on the Coventry Cemetery Commission Facebook page.  Grave specific donations must  include  the  name  of  the  veteran  and  the  cemetery.   All monies  must  be  remitted by 11/19/2021 to be counted for 2021.

Boy Scout Troop 65 will assist in laying wreaths but all are invited to place a wreath for the veteran their donation has honored or to place a wreath to honor a veteran.  The Knights of Columbus will be helping  to  place  wreaths  at  St.  Mary’s  Cemetery.  The  wreaths  for  all  other  cemeteries  will  be  distributed at Coventry Cemetery and be your responsibility to place.

Although  this  is  a  solemn  occasion,  in  a  cemetery,  it will  be  a  celebration  in  honor  of  Coventry’s  veterans and veterans across the nation.  The American Legion Post 52 and the V.F.W. Post 10589 led by Commander Manny Rodrigues will participate in the ceremony.  Ceremonial wreaths will be presented for all seven services: Army, Marines. Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, MIA’s and POW’s. Timothy Ackert, State Representative and John Elsesser, Town Manager will speak. The Coventry High School band will play.

All are invited, join in to make this fourth year a fitting tribute to our veterans and all veterans!
