Notification of Aquatic Treatment - Coventry Lake

Notification of Aquatic Treatment - Coventry Lake

In accordance with the Connecticut DEEP, Pesticide Division notification requirements, portions of Coventry Lake in Coventry will be chemically treated with the USEPA/CT DEEP registered aquatic herbicide Sonar ONE (fluridone) to control non-native Hydrilla on July 12th.  The lake will be closed to swimming on the day of treatment.  There is no restriction on boating or fishing and the CT DEEP boat ramp will remain open.  Additionally, use of water from the pond for irrigating newly seeded turf/plants and certain plants (including tomatoes, peppers, tobacco) from the Solanaceae Family is restricted until October 13th.  There are no irrigation restrictions for established turf, trees, shrubs and plants not within the Solanaceae Family. Applicable water use restrictions will be posted with signs prior to application in accordance with CT DEEP requirements.

Following the initial treatment, it is anticipated that two additional, follow-up “booster” treatments will be required over a period of approximately 45-60 days.  Notice of these follow-up treatments and any additional water-use restrictions will be made via subsequent posting of the lake’s shoreline prior to each treatment.

The work is being performed for the CT DEEP and Town of Coventry pursuant to a permit issued by the CT DEEP. Information on the application may be obtained from the person named below. The treatment is being performed by the state licensed firm SOLitude Lake Management, of Shrewsbury, MA. Contact: Dominic Meringolo (508) 865-1000.
